Happy Holidays from your community garden in Coral Springs! New Plots Coming Soon

Everyone’s walking around wondering how the holidays are already upon us.  Happy Holidays to All!

It has been a very busy time for the garden.  We are loving the cooler weather.  Down here in Zone 10/South Florida,  it began to cool off sufficiently in September for many of the vegetables we love to grow properly.  Gardeners were busy planting seeds and plants mostly in September, some a little earlier, some a little later.

Our garden plots are full!  And they are beautiful!  Pictures will follow in the next little while.

We have quite a waiting list!  Many of you have requested plots,  We are pleased to report that we anticipate building new plots, with the first ones to be built within the next couple of months.  We will let people on the waiting list know as soon as they are available.  Please call if you are interested in a plot.  We apologize in advance if we take a little time getting back to you.  We are all volunteers with full-time jobs but we love the garden and are grateful for the city of Coral Springs’s support!

Time to Renew

Already we are planting seeds. Before we know it, it will be time for plants…

New This Year: Community Gardening Area

This year, besides individual plots, which have yielded a beautiful multiplicity of food, color and burgeoning friendships, we will also be planting a large circular wheel/mandala garden whose intention is for organizations and groups  to be responsible for a “slice,” planting food plants and some beneficial flowers, and donating the proceeds to food banks.

We are also designing common areas  with plants that will beautify, attract and feed native butterflies, birds, beneficial insects and humans, discourage harmful insects,  provide wind-break and shelter, and yield opportunities for community education and service.

Come renew or sign up for a garden plot (click tab for garden plot contract at the top) or volunteer for the common garden area.

New Growth at Earth Fair April 23

A future gardener receives a cosmos plant from Jackie Ida. Photo by: Coral Springs Whole Foods Market.

Earth Fair at Whole Foods was great!  Lots of people learned about our community garden, and left our table with beautiful origami packets containing marigold seeds, and with young cosmos grown from seed in the garden.  The children left with seed necklace they’d made,  and smiles on their faces! A lucky winner (stay posted) will win a garden plot!

It was great to make community connections.  We reaped some wisdom from our “elders” at www.thefruitfulfield.org, the community garden in Pompano Beach.
